Did You Know?
The PCH's most dramatic section through Big Sur took eighteen years to build, from 1919 to 1937. Convict labor performed much of the dangerous work, carving roadbed from sheer cliffs using hand tools and dynamite. The highway originally cost fifteen million dollars.
